Australian rugby superstar Jarryd Hayne will sign a futures contract to play with the San Francisco 49ers. He is expected to receive at least $100,000 in guaranteed money. Apparently, Hayne was also pursued by the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions, but was drawn to San Francisco because of new head coach Jim Tomsula’s history of coaching in NFL Europe. The $100K guaranteed probably didn’t hurt either.
This is not the first time a rugby player has made the transition to the NFl. The last time being in 2012, when Hayden Smith was signed as a Tight End for the New York Jets.
